Michael, you lied to me. You said I was green… I don’t “feel” very green any more. How can I be green and feel these feelings that I’m feeling? It’s like I’ve morphed into something else. Like I woke up one day and someone painted me yellow. Is this natural?
You know, on almost every call you state something like, “When you get this, when you really get this, your life will change!” I always said to myself, “Get what? I get it already!” But I didn’t. I always thought you were saying it for others, not me. Intellectually I got it, but in my heart, I just…. didn’t…. get it.
Then a weird thing happened. A few months ago, I asked my mentor Emmanuel Padilla, “If you did not know me, would follow me?” Not surprisingly, he said “no!” He said he would follow you, Michael, but not me. I didn’t get it yet. I love his honesty. I was crushed mind you, but it was the truth. And I had to admit to myself that I would not even follow me. Quite humbling to say the least.
I had to make a choice. Become the person others would follow, or quit. So what the hell was I going to do now? I didn’t believe I was worthy enough to be followed. Who was I? I never did anything with my life. I wasn’t an example, I was just pretending to be someone who I wasn’t. I was fake. I was selfish. I had a planet sized EGO. My wife knew it, my kids knew it, my friends knew it.
So I called a “time out” and I reflected. I decided to study. Instead of being a jack of all trades, I decided to focus. Specialized Knowledge you say? I decided to figure out what the difference is in those that have truly “made it” in this industry and those that haven’t. Now I’m not talking heavy hitter –burn and churn guys, I’m talking the people that have true longevity, that are building big, building strong and building for a lifetime. People who others follow. People with Posture.
What did I find? It’s actually exactly what you teach. ON EVERY CALL!! I found that every one, every one, took themselves out of the equation. They view this as much, much bigger than themselves. That “Posture” I was looking for isn’t about the millions that you make. The house that you live in. The car that you drive. The people you hang around with.
That “Posture” is about how people feel when they’re around you. Because people can feel it. They can sense when you care more about your success than theirs. When it’s about YOU and not THEM.
Intellectually, I understood that, but it wasn’t until I felt it. Knew it. Breathed it. That things started to change. It’s not about me reaching a certain pin level or financial level. It’s not about me getting accolades and recognition. It’s about helping others get that. Helping others achieve much more than I do. Lifting people higher than they ever thought they could go. Getting rid of the EGO! Leading with LOVE. I cry every time I think about it. The emotion is almost too much to contain! As a green, I’ve never let that happen. Emotion like that is a sign of weakness, damn it! Ha ha, my, how things have changed.
I “Get it” now. I feel it in every fiber of my being. This is bigger than me, bigger than all of us! This is life changing!
By the way, the other day, Emmanuel said to me, “Remember a while back you had asked me a question? Would I follow you? Right now, yes I would absolutely follow you, and I am.”
I actually ran out of tears that day!
Michael, you get thanked in almost every email and lesson plan submitted. But I don’t want this thank you to be just words on a page. What you do here…. You open people’s hearts to what truly matters. These words aren’t enough… I love you man!
Green you say? Maybe, but with yellow polka-dots!

“Green with yellow polka dots” — I LOVE it! But isn’t that what we so often find when we start getting rid of the crap in our minds and real growth begins? My hubby thought I was one colour, and I wanted to believe him. Boy were we wrong!! Now that I know what colour(s) I am, it’s much easier to go with WHO I am… because I am being who GOD designed me to be.
Thanks for sharing this lesson with us!

Isn’t it amazing when we take our pre-conceived thoughts about what success is, out of the mindset we come up with emotion? Take “money and material possessions” away from the perception they are what defines us and we can become our authentic self.

David it is amazing the changes that come over those who participate in the 30 Day Mental cleanse. As David Haines admits, it is like morphing into something else. You become so different. You have a different outlook on yourself, others and your own situations. The Mental Cleanse has been a life changing experience for me. Reaching deep into myself to find who I really am was an incredible journey. I firmly believe that to have more we have to become more. To be more to others we have to become more. This is exactly what happened in this mastermind group.

Hi Diane,
I’m glad you noticed the connection between growing oneself and growing one’s business. Please, my friend, don’t push it off like its for everyone else. I did that for years, and it got me 15 years of frustration, anger, and heart ache in my online business. If you are too busy to grow YOU then you are too ego and greed driven to grow a successful business. Its just that simple.
If you’d like to change all that, change you life, and transform you business, then look me up

I love how you’ve mentioned some key points about our posture, mindset, focus…. it’s all about keeping the focus on what we can offer of value to our visitors, clients, business partners, etc. And taking the ‘I’ out of it!!
I like to think of it as you have so nicely stated it: Leading with Love! And keep that ego in check! We all can use this reminder now and then. Thank you!

Now on to your message. I could not agree more. Elton John (I believe) once wrote a song about it: “give more than you take”. Thanks so much for sharing this. The “colors” are an interesting concept. I agree with the bottom line of the post (or the bottom line to me), which is “what kind of person do you want to be?” and “how do others perceive you?” Deep down, I believe we ALL want to be the person that can be of service to others, of contribution and that others want to be around. This really is the focus of my couples counseling as well. What is it that you want to GIVE to your partner, not what is it you want to GET!
Thanks again,

Several months ago I created a video called “Bliss Construction,” using the metaphor of house construction for building your own sense of self worth. True self confidence comes as we let go of our ego, stop trying to prove anything to others, and continually focus on how we can be of servous to others. The more we give, without expectation of a return, the more naturally people are drawn to us and we do receive back much more than we have given. Thank you for your authentic sharing about your own experience.

I have always loved the statement that “you can get anything you want if you help enough other people get what they want”. This is so true, but only if you help them get what they want for them and not for what it will do for you. That is the great thing about Network Marketing. The more you share your secrets, and inspire others to outdo you, the more success you have. Has to be the perfect business model!

WOW David what a very powerful blog post, I love the lesson’s the story teachers. What a blessing you are to so many people out there. Giving of yourself to help others, truly beautiful. We see so many who are just out to make buck instead of truly helping someone from your heart. You are right when we serve others it will come back to you. I look forward to learning more from you.
Love always

David,
Love the post. It is amazing and so true how others can tell when we’re hung up on ourselves and our success rather than being sincerely committed to helping them achieve. And until we are truly 100% committed to helping others so that it’s a part of our being, we will not be someone that people want to follow.
Thanks,
~ Pat and Lorna

Hi David! I love this type of posturing… truly caring about others and their success; it not only opens our hearts but theirs too, to what truly matters. You’re right, people DO feel it when they’re around you. Ever notice the individuals who are people magnets wherever they go? They don’t even have to say anything, people are drawn to them because they sense on another level that they are truly cared about. What a great thing the online / internet marketing industry offers us in this respect! Thanks for sharing your valuable article with us all! Loren

Great post and video David,
The color types reminds me of the brilliant Edward DeBono’s Six Thinking Hats book. I love the story and especially the part about looking within to see if we are the type of leader we would want to follow.
Also, I agree that at the end of the day, it’s not about achieving some type of pin level or recognition. It’s about contributing to the lives of others to help them get to what will make a difference in their lives.
All lasting success is definitely from the inside out.

Hi Jaden,
I’ve been exactly where you and your wife are at right now, like looking in a mirror from the past.
Just know that I’m here to help and support in any way I can, and Mentoring for Free is here to help as well, and it really is free.
Take Care,

Green? Yellow? Is this the mentoring for free – success in ten steps stuff? Or are you speaking in chakras? Great post – it came up on my Stumbleupon suggestions. We have no other choice but to follow our bliss everything else leads to frustration and unfulfilled natures. I love these ‘Satori’ moments where things just fall off your back and you feel pounds lighter. When you get your market and your message it is that way. Thanks for sharing.
